The holiday season is fast approaching, and there's no better time to enjoy some fun for a good cause. As always, our real estate agents in Elkhart County want to make sure you know about all the happenings in the area, and one of our favorite holiday traditions is right around the corner – the annual Santa Run and Stroll.
Starting in 2010, the Santa Run and Stroll has become a mainstay of the holiday season in Elkhart County. This year, the run will be taking place in Bristol, Indiana for the first time, and we can't wait! Proceeds from the event go toward the Michiana Pay It Forward Foundation, an organization that helps youths in Indiana and Michigan to have a positive impact on their community and world through "paying it forward" without expectation of return.
Not only does the Santa Run and Stroll benefit a good cause, but it's also one of the most fun events of the holiday season. If you intend to push yourself to hit the finish line first, it can also be one of the most challenging. Of course, the best part is that most participants choose to dress up in their best holiday costumes. So be sure to bring a Santa suit, although you might want to swap out the boots for some running shoes!
The Santa Run and Stroll consists of three events: the relatively laid-back 1-mile Santa Stroll, the 5K walk/run, and the more strenuous 10K run. Santa suits or T-shirts are provided free of charge for participants in the 5K and 10K who register before Thanksgiving! Prizes go to the top participants in each age group, and dogs and strollers are welcome.
This year's Santa Run and Stroll takes place December 8. Rain, sun or snow; it's bound to be an exciting event. This year also sees the race take off from a new location: St. Mary's Church at 411 W Vistula Street in Bristol, Indiana. This new venue offers a great space to stay warm before and after the race, with a large hall and indoor restrooms. Breakfast will be served after the race, and water, cocoa, and cookies will be available along the route.
The course for the 2018 Santa Run and Stroll follows mostly flat country roads, offering a peaceful setting, mild terrain and sweeping views for all participants. On the morning of December 8, the event starts with the Jingle All the Way 10K (run) at 9 am, followed by the Festive 5K (walk/run) at 9:05, and the 1-mile Santa Stroll (walk) at 9:10.
