Low-Cost Home Improvements - Home Sellers - Cressy & Everett Real Estate

If you're planning on adding your house to the inventory of South Bend homes for sale, you can benefit from sprucing things up a little bit. Potential buyers will appreciate the updates, and you can enjoy the improvements while your home is on the market. Here are a few of our favorite inexpensive home improvement updates that you can easily do right now.

  • Spruce Up Your Curb Appeal
Spring has sprung, so now is a great time to freshen up your home's curb appeal. Take this opportunity to rake up dead leaves and trim your trees and bushes. Weed your flower beds and the lawn. If you have a plastic mailbox, clean it with warm soapy water and remove mold and mildew by spraying it down with white vinegar.

Sweep your porch and patio, then clean off your outdoor furniture and put it out so you can start enjoying it. If you happen to have some extra paint, consider using it to freshen up your porch or give your front door a new look.

  • Rearrange Your Furniture
You can change the entire look and feel of your home by rearranging your furniture and decor. Don't be afraid to get creative! If you hate the way it looks, you can always just put it back the way it was.

You might also think about moving certain pieces of furniture to completely different rooms, repurposing items, or using pieces of decor in new ways. Use your imagination and the possibilities are endless.

  • Declutter
Getting rid of clutter can make a huge difference in every room of your home. If you're like most people, this is also a project that will keep you busy for quite some time. Start in the bathroom by throwing out expired makeup and personal care products you no longer use. Then, get rid of or repurpose any towels that are stained or worn out.

In the kitchen, clean out your cupboards, cabinets, pantry, and junk drawer. If you have small appliances you don't use, get rid of them so you have more counter space. Thin out your collection of books and magazines, organize your closets, and donate or repurpose any home decor items that you no longer love.

Lastly, head out to the garage. Organize your tools, hang up what you can, and set aside the things you don't use anymore. Since you might not be able to sell or donate items right now, choose a corner of one room or a section of your garage to store it until you're able to get it out of your home.

  • Refresh Your Floors and Carpets
Clean floors and carpets can also make a noticeable difference. Spot-clean stains on carpets with warm, soapy water. Once they've dried, sprinkle them with baking soda and let it sit for at least an hour. Then vacuum it all up. When you're done, they'll look and smell great.

You can also make dirty grout come to life again by sprinkling it with baking soda and then spraying it down with white vinegar. Let it fizzle for a few minutes, then scrub with a brush. When you're done, mop your floors and they'll come out looking just like new.
